Elle’s Studio-Week 1 Project Life

Hello friends!  Welcome back!  Candace with you today to share my week 1 of 2017 Project Life. Now, I am not this far behind! LOL… What I like to do is print out my photos weekly and stick them in the pockets.  Then when I find the perfect cards and embellishments I complete the spread.  I like this format because it keeps things interesting and fresh.  It also cuts down on the time it takes me to complete the spread by having the photos all printed and ready to go!

Now, for this weeks spread.  I used the photos as the color inspiration for the spread. I build my spread with dark blues, mint, gray and wood grain.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-Week1-1

I started with the title card for the week and stamped this weeks dates with black StazOn ink. To bring a little color to the card I added a blue puffy sticker from the Family Fun collection.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-Week1-2

I love the two cards on the left side of the spread that leave a little spot for a 2×2 photo and journaling.  This allowed me to add more photos and words to my spread. My favorite card on the left side of the spread is definitely the world map card (swoon).  The color and map are just perfection and there is even a small spot to add notes! I marked on the map where my husband went that week for business along with a photo collage.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-Week1-3

On the right side of the spread I balanced the colors by adding a few blue elements along with a gray journal card along the center.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-Week1-4EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-Week1-5

To add a interest to the acrylic button I weaved a bit of white embroidery floss through the holes.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-Week1-6

I love the look and contrast of the foodie stickers on top of my candy photo!

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-Week1-8

One of my favorite parts to include in my weekly spread is memorabilia.  This week I included a picture my little guy drew for me.  For my journaling I used the Family Fun stamp as a title and ran the journal card through the typewriter.

Such a fun spread to put together and all the items from Elle’s Studio were the perfect match!

One Little Bird-Adding Interest To Your Pocket Page Spreads

Hello friends!  Candace back with you today to share a few tips on how to easily add interest to your pocket page spreads.  Sometimes when we do this project week after week year after year we can fall in to a bit of a rut.  Today I wanted to share a few simple ideas on how to keep not only your readers interested in looking at your spreads but keep you inspired to keep creating!

My inspiration for this post came from week 26 from my 2017 project life album.  Here is a look at the completed spread!

Tip #1 : Layer white embellishments on top of dark colored papers and journal cards.  This will add depth and contract to your pages.

Tip #2 :  Add a bold element focal element to the spread.  This will break up the journal cards and give the eye somewhere to rest on the spread.  (It also looks really fantastic!)

Tip #3 :  Add a see through element on your page.  For my see through element I adhered a square chipboard embellishment to a clear piece of acetate cut down to 3×4.    When I move on to documenting my next week I can just adhere another chipboard piece to the other side and complete the spread as usual.

Tip #4 : Add repeated elements across the spread to help to reader’s eyes travel across the spread and look for the similar elements.  This also adds a certain continuity and cleanness to the spread.  For my repeated element I added a cork geo tag and white chipboard word strip to three various 4×6 photos.

Tip #5 :  Add an insert.  This will give the reader an interactive tool and a new element to look at.  This works especially well if there are items to pull out of the insert.  For my insert I added a photo and a few items of memorabilia from my son’s baptism.

I hope this inspired you to add a little more interest to your weekly spreads to break up the monotony and bring back a little inspiration!  It is important to document our memories but we should enjoy it, have fun with it and be inspired by it!  Have a beautiful day! All the items I used in todays spread are linked below.

Elle’s Studio-Project Life Wk 16 2017

Hello again, today I am sharing a fun & colorful project life spread.  This week has been siting my album for months just waiting for the perfect kit with coordinating colors to make my photos really pop.  I am so happy because the August kit was just perfect for this week! Here is a look at the full spread!

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-PLWk16-1

Because I had all the photos printed and ready to go I was able to simply slide in the journaling tags from this month’s kit and add a few intentional embellishments to create balance among the colors in the spread.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-PLWk16-2

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-PLWk16-3

The wood veneer pocket fillers are my favorite embellishment from this month!  They add the prefect pop of fun to any project.  I needed a little bit more red on the left side of the spread so I decided to add a cute acrylic star on top of the veneer.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-PLWk16-4

I adore cards that prompt you to add a photo and a story.  On this card I added a small 2×2 black & white photo then ran it through my typewriter to add my journaling.  I like the addition of a different size photo in the spread to break up all the journaling along the 3×4 cards.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-PLWk16-6

I wanted to use one of the cute digital cards from this month but chose to just print it out plan and add my journaling with my typewriter to make sure all my fonts in the spread were a perfect match.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-PLWk16-7

I loved the sentiment “some of my favorite moments” but it was on a 4×6 card and I didn’t have anymore space in my spread.  I decided to just cut up the the 4×6 card and create my own 3×4 card.  To add a little more interest I chose to pop up the sentiment on a white piece of card stock.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-PLWk16-8

No spread is complete without the date and there is no better stamp than the Dated Stamp! I added a yellow, puffy arrow between the dates for a little pop of color and to tie in more colors across the spread.

Such a fun week!  I love that I can always count of the Elle’s Studio kits to bring lots of color and fun to my spreads and they are always a perfect match for my boy photos!  I hope this inspired you and gave you a few ideas on how you can use the August kit to document your family’s stories this month.

Have a beautiful day!

Freckled Fawn-Magic at the Beach

Hello Lovelies!  Candace with you today to share a double page 8.5×11 layout all about the magic of the beach.  I love the beach and the only thing that is almost as good as going to the beach is scrapbooking photos of the beach!  I love the light and ethereal feel of the water and sand in the photos and wanted the photos to act as the focus of the layout.  To keep the layout photo-centric I knew that I needed a light and simple color palette.

When I received the August kit along with the wood slices from the Freckled Fawn shop I knew I had all the perfect elements to create my layout!

FFAugust1-1.jpg

I started the layout by using a 2″ and 3″ circle punch to punch out photos for the spread.  I knew I wanted to keep the bulk of the embellishments and photos on the left side of the spread while placing my journaling and title on the right side.

FFAugust1-5

I also punched a 3″ circle out of the one of the new journaling cards in the shop.  I love the sentiment on this card!  Perfect for this layout!

FFAugust1-6

To add a little more contrast to the simple colors on the spread I added a few pieces of black chipboard  and an enamel heart on top of the circle wood slices.

FFAugust1-4FFAugust1-7

I love a simple font in my alphas.  The cork letters in the shop are perfection, plus they  matched the colors of the layout!

FFAugust1-2

To finish off the right side of the spread, add just a touch more color, and to tie the left and right side together I added the “explore” acrylic sentiment.

FFAugust1-3

I adore the final layout!  Simple and beautiful, just like the beach!  Make sure you stop by the shop to pick up all the goodies that I used and document those memories!

One Little Bird-Summer Pocket Page Inspiration

Hello One Little Bird friends!  Candace back with you today to share a little summer pocket page inspiration.  For my spread this week I decided to gather a few of the recent summer collections from the shop; Cabana, Soleil and the most recent, Hyannis.  I chose a few of my favorite cards from each of the collections to tell my story for this week.  To build my color scheme for the spread I chose to use the color scheme from the Hyannis collection.  After importing all the cards I wanted to use for the spread into Photoshop I changed the colors and added my journaling.  I love how the final spread came together!  I adore the fun summer colors and themes through the spread.  If you want to build a fun summer spread here are a few tips…

Tip #1: Light.  Wether you add light when you are taking your photos or adjust the photos in photoshop after it always looks great when you lighten and brighten summer photos.

Tip#2: Color.  Along the same idea as light, summer spreads always look best when you add lots of bright and fun colors.  That is what summer is all about!  Add pops of color to your journal cards or embellishments for more interest and fun!

Tip#3: Balance.  With all the fun colors and embellishments going on in the summer spread you want to make sure you give the reader a place to rest their eyes.  Add balance to your spread with black & white photos and simple black journaling.

Tip #4: Consistency.  Again, to go along with balance you want to have a few consistent elements across your spread.  This helps the spread from feeling too cluttered or busy.  For example, in my spread I added the day of the week circles and a white star to all the 4×6 photos, simple and consistent elements.

I hope this gave you a few ideas on how to put together a fun summer spread collecting and documenting all your summer memories!  Below you will find links to all the fun journal cards I used in The LillyPad.

Have a beautiful day!

Freckled Fawn-Adventure Together

Hello Lovelies! Candace here back with you today sharing a fun layout using the July sketch.  I am a pretty simple scrapper.  I like lots of white space with intentional embellishments.  The July sketch is right up my alley with lots of space to add journaling and fun, simple embellishments.  Here is another look at the sketch incase you missed it.

 JULYFFSKETCHSWATCH_IG.png
Here is at my final layout and my take on the sketch.
 FFJuly2.jpg
I started my layout with a smooth piece of 8.5 x 11 card stock.  I printed out my photo at 4×6 and backed it with patterned paper to create a border, or frame, like in the sketch.  I placed the photo stack on the top third of the layout to create space on the bottom for a large title and simple journaling.
 FFJuly1.jpg
For the title I used the “adventure” acrylic and the “together” chipboard.  I adhered the acrylic piece with three simple hand stitches.  By using the hand stitched detail it not only adheres the acrylic to the paper but adds special detail and dimension.  Instead of doing traditional journaling I thought it would be fun to use the chipboard phrases under the title.  I love the fun sentiments on the chipboard and a new take on telling our family story.  Under the chipboard phrases I used the ADORABLE letter stickers to add the location of the photo along with the year.
 FFJuly3.jpg
To mimic the small embellishments in the sketch I added a few of navy  enamel hearts.  I created a visual triangle with the hearts and finished off the spread with the sun chipboard.  The final spread, though simple is a perfect reflection of our day and my feelings about it.
Thanks so much for stopping by today!  You can pick up the goodies that I used on this layout in the shop here
Have a beautiful day!
Hugs,
Candace

Ali Edwards Story Kit-Lost & Found

I am so in love with this month’s story kit from Ali Edwards; Lost & Found.  I have been waiting for the perfect kit to tell the story of my husband and his love for the outdoors and wild adventures.  This kit is just perfect!

For my fist project with the kit I created a 6×8 spread.  On the left side of the spread I used a full page photo of my husband on top of the Grand Canyon.  For the right side of the spread I used a square digital stamp from the kit, removed the inside of the stamp and inserted a journaling box in photoshop for my journaling.  I used a few simple and intentional embellishments from the kit to compliment the story and photo in my spread.

Oh, I just love how it turned out!
