One Little Bird-Going Digital

Hi friends!  Welcome back to my blog!

I have been working hard in my project life album and so far this year and I have gone completely hybrid.  This means that I have been using digital journal cards to complete my journaling then printing out the cards at home and inserting them into the page protectors with my photos and embellishments.  In past years I have done a combination of physical and digital.  Sometimes I would do my journaling in my own handwriting, other times I would insert the journal cards into a typewriter and lastly I would work with digital products on my computer.  While this worked for me then, I have also noticed that by going digital I have been able to :

  • Fit so many more words and journaling in to my spreads.  With the ability to adjust the font size and type I can document so many more of my family’s memories!
  • With how quick and streamlined digital scrapbooking can be I have cut down on my process time allowing me to create more spreads!
  • Customize the cards and embellishments to fit my spreads and my personal style.
  • Increase my options for digital cards & embellishments.  Digital scrapbooking is so popular and widespread now that almost any physical collection can be purchased digitally.
  • Save money.  Not only is digital scrapbooking more widespread now but it is often much cheaper than physical collections.

With all the benefits of going digital/hybrid I don’t think I will ever go back to physical project life!  Here is a look at my spread for Week 9 2017 using the newest collection from OLB Origin!

Looking over the whole spread you can see that I was able to fit so many words and memories buy going digital.

Luckily, the cards and photos matched perfectly this week so I didn’t have to do any changes to the colors or style of the cards.

This card is my favorite on the entire spread and the card that really brings the whole spread together.  Due to the amount of photos I wanted to include on this week’s spread I needed a card that could contain all my journaling.  I was able to document the memories of all the 4×6 cards on this one card by numbering the photos with cork circles and documenting those numbers in the journaling card boxes.

I love how the whole spread came together.  The cards from the OLB Origin collection matched this week perfectly and the ease of using digital products helped the spread come together quickly.

If you haven’t taken the plunge and and tried digital products yet…go for it!  I think that you will end up falling in love with it just like me!

Have a beautiful day!

Elle’s Studio-Memory Dex Summer 2017

Hello friends & happy summer! I am so happy to be back with you today sharing a fun project using the new summer journaling tags along with goodies from the June kit!  These two collections of cards coordinate perfectly and are all ready to hold all your summer stories!

To start I printed out a bunch of summer memories I wanted to include in my summer memorydex. Next, I used the memorydex dies to die cut a few papers from the Sunny Days collection along with a few journaling tags.

After all my cards and photos were ready, I just played!  Yea!  I went through my embellishments, cards and photos and just started mixing and matching.  So often in scrapbooking we feel pressure to “design” and “balance”.  It was so fun to just sit, play, create and capture memories!

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-SummerMD-1

On my title card I used one of the summer journaling tags along with the black letter stickers and summer acrylic shapes.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-SummerMD-2

The second card is a mix of summer journaling tags and die cuts from the June kit.  To add a little more interest and dimension I used foam squares along with the tiny attacher staples to adhere my photos.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-SummerMD-3

I adore the little popsicle journaling tag that was perfect to document summer treats along with the cute acrylic popsicle.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-SummerMD-4

We do a lot of grilling during the summer so I was so excited to see this journaling tag!  (And how cute is that little grill?!)

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-SummerMD-5

For this card I die cut a 4×6 tag then adhered another 3×4 card layered with die cuts.  I love that all the sentiments on the June kit die cuts.  A summer match made in heaven!

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-SummerMD-6

I think I need a million more of these summer cards!  This is what summer is all about! I layered a few cards together to add additional color and interest and topped it all off with more summer acrylic shapes.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-SummerMD-7

My happy place…in a swimsuit, next to water, but not in it…LOL.  No project is complete without a puffy heart sticker!

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-SummerMD-8EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-SummerMD-9

Next I created an envelope out of patterned paper from the Sunny Days collection.  I used puffy letter stickers to add “notes” to the front of the envelope that holds more summer memories and notes.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-SummerMD-10EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-SummerMD-11

Tucked inside the envelope are more 3×4 cards trimmed slightly and embellished with HOT summer memories!

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-SummerMD-12

This was such a fun project to create!  I am so happy that I have all these memories captured and because it is in the memorydex I can add more as the summer goes on!

What summer memories will you capture and document this year?  Have fun!

Freckled Fawn-South Carolina

Hello friends!  Today I am so excited to share my first layout for Freckled Fawn as a design team gal!  For today’s double page layout I used the June Kit along with a few extra goodies from the shop.  I wanted to document a recent trip my husband and I took to South Carolina together in a grid style layout.  I used a digital grid template from Ali Edwards to place my pictures into the layout.

FF-MaySC-1

I printed out all the photos at 3×3 and laid them on two 8.5×11 sheets of card stock.  Next, I cut up various journal cards from the Adventure set of journal cards to add a bit of color and design to the spread.

FF-MaySC-2

I wanted the spread to stay pretty clean and simple so I went light and intentional with the embellishments.

FF-MaySC-3

I chose to use the chipboard word strips as my main embellishment.  I was happy to see that the word strips matched the photos perfectly!

FF-MaySC-4

I love the perfectly shaped enamel hearts and added one on top of the “adventure” card to add a little more color.

FF-MaySC-5

I used the cork letters to symbolize “SC” for South Carolina.  I love how the cork compliments the navy blue on the card.

FF-MaySC-6

I chose a few pictures and cards around the spread to pop up to add a little more interest and dimension to the spread.

FF-MaySC-7

I added my journaling on a 3×3 card in the lower right hand corner to bring the whole spread together!  I love the whole spread and how it came together easily with the accents and cards from the shop!

Thanks for stopping by today!  Have a beautiful day!

Elle’s Studio-Adventure

Hello Elle’s Studio friends!  Candace back with you today to share a fun 8.5 x 11 layout using the May kit along with papers & embellishments from the Live Laugh Love collection.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-Adventure1.jpg

I wanted to document a recent trip my husband I took together wandering the streets of South Carolina.  I started the layout with a white 8.5 x 11 piece of white card stock.  I wanted my photo block to run along the top third of the layout.  For my block I used a 3×4 card from this month’s kit along with the acrylic “Adventure” piece and a photo from our walk.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-Adventure2.jpg

This block served as the focal point of the spread.  Next, to add balance in both weight and color I started to add to the center of the layout pulling down towards the bottom.  To do this I simply cut up the word strips from another 3×4 card in this month’s kit and popped up the strips running down the page.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-Adventure3.jpg

To ground the layout I added a few accent pieces of patterned paper and washi tape from the LLL collection to the top and bottom of the spread.  For my final touches I added a little black stitching, enamel dots, label stickers and an acrylic heart.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-Adventure4.jpg

I just adore the final layout and the memories captured here.  I love that I can look back and read about these special times together.  I love that my kids can read about how much their mommy and daddy love spending time together.

EllesStudio-CandacePerkins-Adventure5.jpg

Memories made & memories captured and documented….this is what we do and it is so very important!

Thanks for stopping by today!  You can follow the links in the post to the shop to find any of the items that I used on today’s project.

One Little Bird-Week 6

Hello again friends! Candace back with you this month to share some quick tips on combining multiple collections on one layout.

One of the many things that is so wonderful about working with digital products is the freedom and ability to manipulate the products to fit your project. On a pocket page  spread for any given week you are often working with many different themes and subjects.  Combining different collections that cover multiple themes helps tell a complete story BUT might feel difficult as you are trying to balance and match color through the spread. Here are a few quick tips to help you combine themes and collections for a seamless spread.

Tip 1: Start by choosing all your cards. Look at all the photos for the week and decide what stories you would like to tell. Choose cards that will help you tell a complete story of your week. Don’t worry if the colors don’t match, just concentrate on which cards will help push your story forward.

Tip 2: Choose one collection to build your color palette from.  By choosing just one collection to build your spread around you can make sure there is balance and all your colors match across the spread.  This becomes very easy when you are working with digital products!  All you need to do is use the eyedrop tool in photoshop to pick up the colors from the main collection and re-color the products that don’t match.

Tip 3: Use embellishments to finish balancing the weight and colors of the spread. If  you are working with a few non digital products you can balance the spread by adding embellishments from your stash.  Just find products in a similar color palette to the main collection you are using.

Just like that you have built a layout for the week seamlessly combining different collections but still finding balance and telling a complete story.  This is what scrapbooking and memory keeping is all about!  Thanks for stopping by today!  Links to all the collections I used are below.

Have a beautiful day & go out and make some memories!

Clique Kits- Dear Ryder

Hello again friends! Today I am sharing another traveler’s notebook spread over on the Clique Kits blog using this month’s beautiful travelers notebook kit.  I love the small format of traveler’s notebooks and the ability to quickly put together a beautiful spread.

My little guy is completely obsessed with Snapchat right now.  He constantly asks if he can see my phone and play.  I love to hear his little laugh as sees his picture change.  I knew I wanted to document this fun little tradition right now.

TN-ckAPRIL-1.jpg

I started with the insert that comes in the new travelers notebook kit.  I love the white pages!  I thought it would be fun to use the word strips from Pinkfresh Studio to write a letter to Ryder about how much I love this time with him.

TN-ckAPRIL-2.jpg

On the left side of the spread I inserted the word strips between sentences from my typewriter.  For the right side of the spread I layered the photo on top of the grey circle paper from the Pinkfresh Studio 6×6 paper pad.

TN-ckAPRIL-3.jpg

To add the final touches to the spread I added a few puffy stickers with bunched up thread underneath for texture and interest. I love the soft colors that play off the cute picture.

On your next spread try adding embellishments or word strips between your journaling for a fun new technique!  You can check out the new travelers notebook kit, or our beautiful scrapbook kit here.

Thanks again for stopping by!  Go make some beautiful memories!

One Little Bird-Week 13 Drawing Inspiration from Journal Cards

Hello friends!  Candace back with you today! I am excited after taking a few months off to make other fun projects to be back sharing a pocket page spread.  My heart really is in documenting the weekly events and memories of our family.

For my spread this week I drew inspiration from a single card in the recent release, Between Us.  This one card drove the overall design and color scheme of my spread. Here is a quick look at the whole spread, can you guess which card it is?!

If you guessed the adorable poka-dot card, you are right!

I just adore this card with the all the dots in colors from the collection lined up on little strings!

I started by opening up all the cards in Photoshop and adding my journaling. I had pictures in all the 4×6 slots so I knew I needed to cut down the dot card to 3×4 to fit into a middle pocket. I made sure to balance my colors across the spread and made sure that the photos and cards all had similar colors from the collection.

Next, for embellishing I searched through my stash for all my circles, and wood veneers.  To mimic the idea of circles on a line across the spread I lined up the circle embellishments along the top and bottom of all the 4×6 cards.  To add a little more detail I stapled the circles down to the photos.

After finishing with the circles I needed just a little more embellishing to complete the spread but I didn’t want to introduce any new colors so I added wood veneers.  I choose 4 spots across the spread to add the wood to keep the spread balanced and keep the eye moving across the spread looking for the other wood accents.

There it is! I LOVE all the colors in this weeks spread!  I love the repeated elements across the spread that keeps the eye moving.

On your next spread try using a card or embellishment to drive the colors and design of your spread & have fun! Thanks for stopping by for a little pocket page inspiration today!

Felicity Jane-Week 14

Hello friends!  I am so happy to be guest designing for Felicity Jane this month with the beautiful Caroline kit.  When I saw the colors in the kit and the beautiful journal cards I knew that I wanted to use them to document week 14 in my Project Life album.  The colors are the perfect match for our outdoor adventure photos along with the everyday photos.

FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-1

One of my favorite things about the FJ products is their versatility.  As a mom of all boys it is often hard for me to find kits that I can customize to meet our familiy’s memory keeping needs.  With FJ I can always count on classic designs and colors that easily coordinate with all my photos.

FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-2

I always start my spread with a title card. Every year I choose the same weekly title card to use all year long to keep consistancy through the whole album.  I added the date to the title card with some mint ink that coordinated perfectly with the kit colors.  I also added a puffy heart between the dates to bring in a little more color.

FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-3

I spread the journal cards evenly across my spread to find balance in both color and design.

FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-5

To embellish the 4×6 cards in the spread I used the stamp set and stamped sentiments in satz on ink.  Again, to repeat the colors in the spread and bring added attention to the stamping I added the puffy arrows.

FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-4

For the “Smile” filler card I punched out the sentiment from the sticker sheet with a 1″ inch circle punch and then lifted it up with a few foam squares.

FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-16FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-15

FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-8FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-14

I loved that I could use the stamp set with a “best friends” theme and use it in a new way.  All you have to do is step outside the box and think about how these sentiments could apply to different situations.

FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-13

I love the simple beauty of this card next to the flowers.  So pretty!

FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-12

I needed one more spot for journaling so I simply sent the photo through my typewriter and added it right to the front of the photo.

FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-11FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-10FJ-CandacePerkinswk14-9

I just adore the final spread!  It was such a pleasure working with the beautiful Caroline kit this month!  I adore how the colors in the kit play perfectly with my photos and how I was able to step outside the box and use a “best friends” kit to tell our family’s everyday and adventure stories.

Thanks so much for having me!  Now go out and make some memories to document!

Hugs,

Candace
