The Cut Shoppe- Good Read

Hello friends!  Today I am over on The Cut Shoppe blog sharing a two page 6×8 layout using the Page Turner cut file.

One of my favorite things about cut files is the ability to manipulate size and dimension.  This is perfect when you are looking to create the perfect title.  For this layout I wanted a large title but I also wanted it to have lots of dimension.  I wanted the title to stand off the page like thickers.

To create this look on my title I measured my layout to see exactly what size I needed.  Next, I cut the title 5x out of the same black card stock.  I took all the layers and adhered them on top of one another to create a title that was thick and full of dimension.

Using these same steps you can create custom titles for all your projects in the perfect size and thickness.

To finish off this simple layout I added a few chipboard phrase stickers and die cut shapes to support my story.  To ground the bottom of the spread I added a strip of washi tape.  This keeps the eye from wandering off the page.  My extended journaling tells the story of my little bookworm and how we love his thirst for knowledge.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope this shows you that you don’t have to do a big layout with lots of embellishments to make it special.  It really is all about the words and photos and by using cut files you are able to use your embellishments to support and enhance the story.

Have a beautiful day!

Elle’s Studio-Dear Boys

In continuing my focus on storytelling this year I first started my layout by spreading out all the beautiful products from this month’s release.  Next, I looked across all the products to see what stories the products sparked.  When I saw the wood veneers I knew that I could use the veneers as bullet points in a letter to my boys.

For the base of my layout I started with two 8.50 x 11 pieces of white card stock.  I chose to keep the bulk of my creative paper work to the left side of the spread and my story with the accompanying photo on the right.

I cut various papers from the march kit and the Sunny Days collection in the shape of a pie chart.  The pie chart is the main design focus of my spread. I used the wood veneers to act as a tie to the left and right side of the spread through the numbers and journaling.

On the right side of my spread I printed a large photo of my boys right now.  Under the photo I added my extended journaling.

For my extended journaling I numbered each of my bullet points with the coordinating wood veneers.  I wrote a kind of advise letter to my boys.  A letter telling them things I want them to remember as they go through life.  You can read my journaling here.

I added a few small embellishments to the right side to tie it in with the left.  I wanted to make sure that I had balance across the entire spread, in both weight and color.

I love the final spread!  I love the story focus and the way the goodies from Elle’s Studio helped me to dive a little deeper and tell a more complete story. Give this a try the next time you sit down to be creative.  Start with story, find the sparks and dig a little deeper.

Have a beautiful day!

The Cut Shoppe & Bella Blvd Blog Hop

Bella & TCS Post Header.jpg

Welcome friends! Today is the fun blog hop with Bella Blvd + The Cut Shoppe!  Thanks so much for stopping by.  You should have just come by way of the fabulous  LEANNE ALLISON.

For my layout I combined the beautiful Make Your Mark collection and the All Tied Up Alpha.

I pulled the letters into my Silhouette software and released the compound path to remove the “strings” from the center of the letters.  Next, I traced the outline of the letters and cut them out a the fun patterned paper from the collection.  I was inspired by a recent layout by Ali Edwards talking about the bonds people share.

I used dimensional adhesive to adhere the initial letters of all the members of our family to the left side of the spread.

Next, I embellished the left side by adding a few puffy addition stickers along with two hearts from the ephemera pack.

On the right side of the spread I printed a large photo of our family and added my journaling talking about our little family and how special the bond we share is.  To embellish the right side I added an acrylic “bond” sentiment along with a chipboard quote and finished off the cluster by stitching down another heart from the ephemera pack.

I love the simplicity of the layout with the focus on story.  The beautiful paper from the Make your Mark collection and the All Tied up Alpha were the perfect compliments to my story!

Thanks again for stopping by! Remember that The Cut Shoppe is giving away a $25.00 gift certificate to the shop & running a special this weekend in honor of the hop and Bella Blvd is giving away an amazing prize pack!

I have included a list of the entire hop in case you got lost along the way.  Your next stop on the hop is over to the BELLA BLVD. blog!  What a finish!

Thanks again!  Have a beautiful day!

Every month in addition to the kit there are lots of add ons that you can add to your box.  This month there is lots of fun beautiful Spring & Easter themed embellishments and stamps.  My favorite this month is definitely the star acrylics & puffy stars!

Here is a look at the coordinating cut files and printables for February.  They are all fabulous and you can always edit the colors in Photoshop to match each of your projects.

Now for the projects I created for the design team gallery this month.

For my first spread I used lots of goodies from the the Birthday mini kit, including the wood veneer numbers, journal cards and acrylic Happy Birthday.

It just so happens that my oldest turned 10 on March 1st just like Elle’s Studio!  I created a two page 6×8 spread naming 10 things I love about my guy right now.

For my second project I created an 8.5 x 11 single page layout all about my favorite moments in February.  I used the exclusive March journal cards and various papers from the Sunny Days collection to compliment my photos.  To embellish the spread I added a few puffy star stickers, large acrylic white stars, and small colored acrylic stars.

For the title I used the beautiful cursive wood veneer “February” and the black alpha stickers.

I adhered down the acrylic stars with a little red stitching. For the final touches on the spread I used a few of the die cuts that come in the March kit with the perfect sentiments to document our February moments.

Thanks so much for stopping by today to check out the new kit and my fun projects!  If you have any questions let me know!

Have a beautiful day!

I have been thinking a lot about the stories I want to tell in my memory keeping.  I want to include the good and the maybe not so good.  I have 4 boys and one my my little guys is 3 years old right now (and lets us know it everyday).  I wanted to capture how life is right now with this crazy little guy.

To start the layout I printed a full 6×8 photo of my guy.  I paired the photo with some journaling about the little things that Ryder does at age 3 that I love & that drive me crazy.

I added cork numbers next to each journaling block along with word strips and a few star stickers.

I layered large letter stickers spelling out my guy’s name over the full page photo.

Clique Kits-Memories From This Adventure

Hello friends!  I am over on the Clique Kits blog today sharing a fun traveler’s notebook spread using the limited edition kit featuring  Crate Paper’s Oasis collection.  I am in love with this little kit!  So beautiful!  If you missed out on the kit this time around make sure to stay in the know on our Clique Kits Facebook page.  We post there first when limited edition kits are available!  There are still a few add ons available in the shop here.

I set up my spread in the cute insert that came in the kit.  For this spread I wanted to document the weekend our family spent in California at the beach.  It was a magical weekend and I wanted my spread to reflect that.

For the main focal point of my spread I created a full page photo of one of my littles looking at the beach.  To add my journaling and a few additional photos I created an envelope out of the 6×6 paper.

I cropped the pictures down to 3×4 to tuck into the envelope.  On each photo I added a little word strip and a cute puffy sticker.  I included a few of the exclusive journal cards in the kit to tell my story.

To accent the large photo I added a few more word strips and a geo tag.  So many special memories from this trip!  Magic…I am so glad I got all our moments recorded.

Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope this inspired you to document your magic moments in your travelers notebook.  Let me know if you have any questions!

Have a wonderful day & create memories!

Elle’s Studio-This Was Tough

Hello crafty friends!  I’m back with you today to share a layout using the newly released Feel Better mini collection from Elle’s Studio.  One of my new years resolutions this year is to focus on storytelling when creating my layouts.  I want to make sure I take the time to dig a little deeper and tell the stories I may have over looked in the past.  When I saw the new Feel Better collection I knew the story I wanted to tell.

I decided to document a time a few years ago when my little guy was struggling to gain weight and grow.  For about 6 months he needed a feeding tube to eat.  I remember at the time thinking, “this isn’t so bad, I can handle this…”  Looking back now I know that there was so much more to this story, and that is what I wanted to document.

I loved the “This was Tough” card and wanted to use that sentiment as my title but I need more space to tell my story than the 3×4 card allowed, so I decided to go digital.  Did you know that you can turn the physical 3×4 cards that come in the kit digital?  With just a few extra steps you can manipulate the cards to tell any story you have in mind.

Step 1: Scan the card into your computer.

Step 2: Open the scanned image in photoshop.

Step 3: Crop & manipulate the image to fit your project.

For my project I cropped out the title and placed it on a 6×8 canvas.  I measured my spread to make sure that I could place my 4×6 photo on the top and use the Get Well stamp set to create a sub title.  Next, I created a text box and inserted all of my journaling right on the 6×8 canvas.  I printed out the canvas on 8.50 x 11 white card stock.

With my title and journaling in place all I needed to do was to assemble and embellish the layout.  I adhered the photo to the top of the layout and used a cute branding strip to divide the photo from my journaling.  I used the exclusive stamp from the Feel Better collection to add my sub title in mint ink to coordinate with the branding strip.  Below my journaling I added a strip of patterned paper from the Sunny Days collection.  I chose the woodgrain paper to keep a light, soft feel to the layout.   When it came to adding embellishments I wanted to tie in the patterned paper I used and bring the whole layout together.  I used the adorable XO wood veneers from the collection along with a mint puffy heart sticker.

I love how the whole layout came together.  The Get Well kit is perfect to tell so many stories and I love that I can manipulate the cards to tell any of these stories in the perfect way.  Thanks for stopping by today!  I hope this inspires you to use the wonderful goodies from Elle’s Studio tell more of your important stories.

Have a beautiful day!
