One Little Bird-Project Life 2017 Week 5

Hello again!  Today I am sharing Week 5 of my Project Life album for 2017.  This week is all about the stories and words.  This year my focus in all my memory keeping is to tell more of our family’s stories.  Every time I sit to scrapbook I want to think first about the story and second about the products and embellishments.  I want the stories to drive my design and not leave the stories to fit into what is left after I design.

With stories in mind I first laid out my photos and considered the stories that I wanted to tell this week.  I also considered the stories I wanted to tell that I did not have pictures for.  For example, I considered any quotes that I wanted to include or moments of gratitude that I would express.

Next, I opened my digital journal cards and first looked for cards to add my journaling.  I knew I only had one space for a 4×6 card so I looked for that card first.  Looked for a card with multiple colors that I could build my spread from.

I added my journaling to the 4×6 card then looked for 3×4 journaling cards.  When I considered 3×4 cards I did not worry about color because I knew I was going to re-color the cards based on the color palate of the 4×6 card.  I only looked for lots of journaling space to add my family’s stories for this week.

After adding all my journaling and stories to the 3×4 cards I could start filling in the extra spaces with filler cards.  I knew I wanted a circle design on the left side of the spread so I re-colored a 4×6 card from another collection to match the spread.

Finally, I looked across the whole spread and used embellishments to balance the colors across the spread.

I made sure to repeat these embellishments across the entire spread to add consistency and balance.

I also considered balance in dimension of embellishments.  The left side of the spread was looking a little flat compared to the right side so I decided to add more dimension to the journal card.  I cut the “Happy Mind Happy Life” card 2x then popped up the sentiment with foam squares.

I love the final spread.  I love the balance of color, dimension, and embellishments.  Most of all I love the words.  I love the moments and memories captured.  I know that years from now when my memory of this time begins to fade I will be so grateful for the words, stories, and details.  Give this a try on your next spread.

Have a beautiful day & go out and make memories!

Project Life 2016-Week 3

Hello scrap friends!  Here today to share with you my week 3 of Project Life!  This week I decided to add a little more color but still stuck true to my style of minimal embellishments with a focus on the story.  I love how it turned out!

Here is a look at the final layout…

How fun? Right? To get an idea of how this layout came together you can check out my video below!  Have a wonderful day! Thanks for stopping by!

Project Life Title Page 2016

Hi friends! Welcome to 2016! Today I wanted to quickly share a peek at my title page for my 2016 project life album.  I do many different types of scrapbooking but I feel like this project is most dear to my heart.

I want to remember the everyday moments, the messy smiles, chubby handed hugs, the silly little songs and stories.  These are the things that we so quickly forget.  I have done project life for 5 years and I can’t tell you how much my family loves to look back and share memories of big birthdays and the little everyday moments.

If you have never done a project like this before I encourage you to start.  You don’t have to do it just like me, or anyone else.  Do what works for you!  Wether it is a picture a day or a monthly spread, just start collecting everyday moments, document them and you are on your way!

Here is a look at the title page!  I used cards from Clique Kits, One Little Bird and a few other goodies from my stash.  I stuck with a simple color scheme to bring the page together quickly.

Thanks for stopping by!  Stay tuned for project life spreads and process videos coming all 2016!  If you have any questions please let me know!  Have a beautiful day & go capture some everyday perfection!

One Little Word Wednesday-January Prompts

bravery doesn’t
happen overnight
has been living in your
bones, dormant,
but alive,
waiting for you
to see that it has
always been yours
waiting for you
to marvel when you
see that you can do
what you’ve always
wanted to do
and be who
you’ve wanted to be

I have loved spending the last few weeks really getting to know brave.  What does it mean to be brave?  How am I already brave?  Why do I crave to be more brave?  I love this simple little word that calls me to action already, that challenges me to be better, that forces me to push harder.  I have realized that I want so much more for myself in my life.  Not in terms of worldly possessions but in terms of character and experiences.  I crave new and exciting experiences that open my eyes wider to the world around me and expand my perspective.  I crave character building moments that carve me into the person that I want to be.

As I have spent time getting to know brave I have recorded my thoughts, feelings and inspiration in to my one little word album. I thought today I would share the cover page and first few pages of my album that is coming together.  Enjoy!

The cover page is vellum that I typed my word on and then stitched in place with gold thread.DSC_0531 DSC_0532 The second page has my prompts definition, quotation and reason why along with a few photos and a circle embellishment from the January “Firsts” kit from Ali Edwards.DSC_0533

Project Life Week 44

This week I wanted to show the simple impact of black & white photos.  I love how it seems to show time stopping and capturing that exact moment.  I used cards from the Midnight edition of Project life as my base and then embellished them with stamping, wood veneers and some fabric.  I wanted to stay simple this week, and I have to say that I LOVED it.  Enjoy!DSC_1054 DSC_1058 DSC_1061 DSC_1065 DSC_1067 DSC_1072

Project life-Week 13 & 14

For these weeks I was inspired by the colors mint, kraft, yellow and black.  I started by laying out my pictures.  For me this works the best because I always want to make sure that the pictures take center stage.  I don’t want to find a bunch of paper that I like and then find that I can’t fit all my pictures in to the spread!  I don’t like to say that I do a one page layout a week or a two page layout a week, I honestly go by how many pictures I took, or how many stories I have to tell.  Some weeks I have a one page layout other weeks I have four pages of  layouts!

After I crop and lay out all my photos I start with the journal cards that have focal point words.  Cards that might act as a title if I was doing a traditional layout.  I then add in the supporting paper that will mat photos and that I will do my journaling on.

Next I move on to stitching and embellishing.  Lastly  I do all my journaling.  When I think that I am all done I stand back and make sure that there are no bare spots and that my page is balanced.  As everyone knows, some weeks are better than others.  Some layouts you LOVE, some layouts you hope that none looks too closely at.  But in the end it is about the moments that were captured and the stories that were told.
