Friday Spotlight-Amy Tan Stitched

Oh, how I love this new line by Amy Tangerine!  It is called Stitched and is filled with beautiful colors and embellishments.  I was inspired by all the stitching and put my sewing machine to work to put this layout together.

I used various 12×12 papers, the small puffy stickers, and the rubons.  After I had sewn the papers down I pulled up the edges to add dimension.  To make the big stitched circle I traced a bowl and then did a back-stitch with black thread.  This layout was so fun to put together.  It is nice when you are inspired and the ideas just keep coming so the layout can come together quickly.  Start to finish I think this layout took about 2 hours.

The inspiration for the layout design came from Scrap our Stash November’s layout sketch.  You can visit their site here to see more details.

Thanks for stopping by!  Please come visit again, lots of big and exciting things coming in 2015!  I can’t spill the beans yet…but BIG things!

Friday Spotlight-Dear Lizzy Polka dot Party

I am so inspired by wood.  There is so much beauty in wood, whether it is weathered and worn or fresh and new.  Every piece of wood is different, unique, and has its own story.

I took this picture during my Ali Edwards week in the life project.  I thought that the wrinkles in my little guys feet would be a perfect picture to go with a wood background.

I had the idea to take a background and distress the wood to make it look like it was peeling.  I instantly thought of this paper by Dear Lizzy.  I layered complementing papers from her collection to be peeking out behind the wood.  I then layered more paper, vellum, overlays and embellishments behind the picture.  When considering the embellishment clusters I knew I wanted to use the beautiful cut files by Wilna Furstenburg.  (She is amazing!!)  I considered adding white ink splatter but decided that I wanted the wood to really be the focus of the layout.

Enjoy!  If you have any questions please let me know.  Next week on the blog I will be sharing pages from my week in the life project!  Have a beautiful day!

Friday Spotlight -Crate Paper Notes & Things Collection

Happy Friday!  The spotlight this week is on Crate Paper’s Notes and Things collection.  If I had to use only one word to describe this collection I would have to say…BEAUTIFUL!  I love how this collection is light and pretty and is all about little notes.

When I first got the chipboard frames in the collection I knew that I wanted to do a page with frames that were set up on a grid.

I laid down a bunch of frames the started adding embellishments in each of the frames till I felt like it was balanced.

I layered 3 stickers from the sticker sheet and sewed down the middle to create a dimensional butterfly.  To embellish the frame on the top I used the Maggie Holmes embossing folder on a piece of vellum then added a wooden heart and a label.

For the bottom right frame I sewed 3 triangles in to garland and strung it behind the frame.

For my journaling I wanted to hide it in an envelope.   I like the idea of my children someday finding little notes that I have left for them in my layouts.  I cut out a cute little label that says “a note for you” to wrap around the tiny envelope.

I love the look of doilies on layouts.  For this frame I just folded it in half and layered it behind a frame then added a wood sentiment over the top.

I love this layout, but what I love even more is the story behind the layout.  This picture captured a perfect moment in the hospital right after I had my 4th son.  It was just the two of us in the room, it was quiet, he smelt fresh and delicious, it was perfection.  It was one of the moments where time stopped.  I am so glad that I snapped a quick picture.  I love that as long as I live, as I forget so many little moments I won’t forget this one…captured.

For the card today I used one of the 4×6 cards in the collection that looked like and envelope to start.  Using my craft knife I cut two rectangles out to create the beginning of a shaker card.  Before adhering the shaker card I stamped on the card to make it look like it had gone thru the mail.  I layered patterned paper, then foam tape, then acetate, and then the envelope card on top.  I added a few more embellishments on the top to finish it off.  I think that this is a card that will definitely brighten someones day.  (You can’t not smile when you get a shaker card in the mail!)

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a beautiful weekend, create something special and capture a perfect moment.

Friday Spotlight-Pink Paislee Solstice Collection

Today’s spotlight is on the beautiful Solstice collection by Pink Paislee.  The colors is this collection are just beautiful! And there are anchors!  I am a little obsessed with anchors and all things nautical.  I don’t have a boat, I don’t go boating, and I don’t particularly love being in open water…but I love all things nautical!

First up the layout.  I used various papers from the 12×12 and 6×6 pads to add some layers around a photo of one of my little guys at the lake.  He just has the cutest face!  I used various letters from my thickers stash to create a title that would surround the photo.   For my embellishment clusters I used some of the puffy stickers from the collection, washi tape from my stash and a little wood chip.  To finish off the layout I flicked some white paint across the page.

Two very simple cards.  I challenged my self to only spend 15 min on each card.  That may seem like a lot of time but I am a bit of an indecisive crafter!
