Hello and happy Saturday! Today I am sharing with you my first two layouts done with the January kit over at Birds of a Feather Kit Club.  I love the January kits and I was so inspired by the bold colors.  I tend to lean toward light colors and lots of white space so it was good to push my self and add more bold colors.  I also used a little mixed media on these layouts to add a little depth and dimension.

In the first layout I started with white card stock and added some white gesso to add texture to the background.  I added small strips of paper to the top and bottom to ground the layout with one sticker strip from the 12×12 sticker sheet.  To add layers to the picture I added the beautiful woodgrain paper from the kit.  I added focus to the picture by painting then distressing the chipboard frame.  For the embellishment cluster I added piece of paper from the 3×4 cut apart sheet and one gemstone.  Gold is big right now so I decided to add little touches of gold with the stitching, pieces of thread and gold trimmed journaling spot.

For layout #2 I wanted to work with a leftover Christmas picture.  I was so happy because the colors in the kit complimented the picture so well.  I started off with the red tulle and stitched it down to white card stock layered on top of the black card stock.  To frame the picture I layered various papers from the kit along with some die cuts and white thread.  To finish off the layout I added some green ink spray and black ink splatters.

I had so much fun creating these layouts and there is so much more to come!  For more inspiration on the Birds of a Feather January Kit and to get your own visit the website.
